During the “Tianguis Turístico 2015”, held in Acapulco, Mexico, the Mexican Secretary of Tourism awarded companies, authorities and communities that improved national’s tourists’ attraction in the following categories:
- Cultural Tourism
- Gastronomic Tourism
- Nature Tourism
- Meetings Tourism
- Medical Tourism
- Cruise Tourism
- Romance Tourism
- Premium Tourism (luxury) –declared deserted-
- Tourism for specific segments: LGBT
- Social Tourism: Touristic product for the young
- Social Tourism: Touristic product for senior citizens and people with disabilities
- Development of touristic activities in public spaces
One of the evaluation criteria of the Mexican Secretary of Tourism and the Mexican Board of Touristic Promotion’s contest was the inclusion of historic, cultural, culinary and artisanal elements in the operation of the product. Surprisingly, most of the winners were companies (7 out of 12):

Quintana Roo: Cobá Villa Maya
3. Meetings Tourism
Chihuahua: Samalayuca Dunes
Company: OCV de Cd. Juárez
4. Cruise Tourism
Chiapas: Finca Argovia
Company: Diversificados Argovia S.A de C.V
5. Social Tourism: Touristic product for senior citizens and people with disabilities
San Luis Potosí: Campamento de Aventura para personas con Discapacidad
Company: Tlachtli Campamento
6. Social Tourism: Touristic product for the young
Sonora: El Conocimiento a través de la experiencia personal
Company: Sonora M Y L Tours.
7. Romance Tourism
Quintana Roo: Isla de la Pasión
Company: Península de la Pasión
Associations, State Tourism Secretaries Councils, and such, including the Government of Oaxaca and the Medical Tourism Enterprise Council, won the rest of the categories.
“Our mission is to contribute in the promotion of the historic heritage and natural wealth Riviera Maya and the whole State of Quintana Roo have to offer, through a program of premium quality as well as a commercialization plan that attracts national and international visitors” said Hugo César Camou, General CEO of Isla de la Pasión, one of the winners. As well, he ensured that as part of this mission, the Island plans to continue with its environmental protection programs, which have been implemented since it began operating.
The truth is, Mexico is on its way to become one of the most popular destinations in the world, and hopefully, we will see more states participating and winning this recognition.
